2014 is already proving to be another exciting year in this household! For memories sake, I figured I should document some of this stuff before I forget how it all went down.
(1) We moved! After selling our old house (it sat on the market in 2011-2012 for 9 months), we moved to a rental house for a year. Not to say we weren't blessed to have a roof over our heads, but needless to say, we were SO happy to be getting out of that place! Between vines growing in the walls (no, really) and the FREEZING winter and HOT summer, we were more than ready to move. Now, I've moved nearly every. single. year. since I graduated high school. That's ten years, y'all. (Which is a whole other WHOA).
After the struggle selling our first home, we weren't so sure about jumping into another purchase. We weighed all of the options and eventually decided that we were ready to settle. The search began! Looking at house is so fun, but it's also so overwhelming! The market in February/March in this area was insane. We literally watched houses fly off the market the day they went up for sale... in a snowstorm. We saw probably 10 houses and found what I thought was THE. ONE. With some hesitation, we made an offer. So did another couple... and they got it. I was so bummed. It would have put us moving during spring break, and it seemed just perfect. Luckily, my husband had a much better attitude it about and was able to get me out of my crazy bummed-out state.
About a month later, after touring another 10-20 houses, we found our new place! Driving up, walking in, we both knew. We called to make an offer right then and there (this was day 1 on the market BTW). Our realtor informed us that this would be the 5th offer, and they had others possibly in the works. WHAT!@?!?! To say I was on pins and needles for the next 24 hours was an understatement, although I managed to keep myself together. We ended up writing a letter to the sellers explaining how grateful we would be to live in their house. I was just so shocked-- We were begging them to sell us their house?? Why couldn't we have had people doing that for us just 15 months before? ;) Oh how times change.
You can see how this ends, we got the house! We moved in mid-April and have been so, so happy making it our home. We've gotten to know a few neighbors, spent a few afternoons at the neighborhood pool, and already have projects in mind for the next few years. If I've learned anything in the past ten years, it is that you cannot predict the future, but I hope we have a good future ahead of us in this home. We are so, so grateful to be settled.
(2) J got a new job! Somewhat out of the blue, he was contacted by a consulting firm for an interview. A friend of his had passed along his name and recommended him to this company. It happened quickly, and in the midst of closing on the new house, but he is very happy with the change.
(3) I got a new job! (Well, sort of.) During the last week of school this year, another 7th grade math position opened up at a different school in our same district. Again weighing all of the options, I decided to apply for a transfer. Not only will this school be closer to home, but it will be within 5 minutes of the daycare we have chosen. I have yet to move my classroom, and have hardly let this sink in, but I'm excited for this opportunity.

Lucas :: 6 months
LUCAS NEAL
SIX MONTHS
written Wednesday, June 19th.
This post definitely feels like a milestone. We even semi-celebrated your half-birthday, which I proposed we do EVERY year, because... why not? :) You have sincerely GROWN. UP. this month. For real. You know what's going on most of the time around the house. When we walk up the stairs, you know we're headed to your room, you know exactly what a bottle is (but also try to get your hands on anything else that looks like a bottle, too). You now put your arms in the air when you want picked up. Your little screeches are especially loud and cheerful in the morning, and they are oh so adorably sweet. Nearly everyone you meet comments on your oh-so-happy demeanor. You are so smiley :)
Lately you've been sleeping through the night (holla!) and waking up for the day a little before 7am. You usually are up for anywhere from 1-2 hours and then take a 2 hour nap. You have lunch around 11am and are ready for another 2 hour nap about 1pm. Sometimes you take another hour nap in the afternoon. You eat again around 2:30 and again at 6.
Weight: We will find out on Friday, I'm guessing 22 lbs.
Length: ?
Diaper Size: Just put on your first size 4 today. You hadn't necessarily outgrown size 3, but size 4 work just fine.
Clothes Size: I don't feel like you've outgrown clothes for a little while. Maybe you're growing taller and not wider these days :) Your waist does seems a little smaller.
Hair Color: Dirty blonde.
Eye color: Blue.
Health:
Good, good!
Eating:
This month you consistently have eaten either sweet potatoes (your preference) or butternut squash, both mixed with a little bit of rice cereal. I've been making your food because it is just so easy to keep in the freezer. Every time you eat you end up completely covered in food. You are reaching and touching EVERYTHING!
Milestones:
You are so happy! You love to roll around on the floor and explore lots and lots of toys. We read you lots of stories and you seem to be interested and to enjoy listening... although I think you would be most happy to have to book in your mouth. You can stand up when we hold you for a couple of second, and are still working on sitting up. I have a feeling you could sit up, but you REACH and fall toward anything that is in front or to the side of you. You absolutely love your cousins and squeal when they talk to you. No paci is really needed anymore because you've decided your right two fingers are just as good.
Your favorite toy:
Stacking Cups, Sophie the Giraffe, Bath Toys (foam numbers and letters), O-Ball
Firsts:
-Meal- sweet potatos and butternut squash... and avacado one time :)
-Nap in the Pack 'n Play
-Bath in the Duck Bath
-Visit to the Pool
-Visit to the Pool
These six months have been the absolute best. We love you to pieces, Lucas!

Lucas :: 5 months
LUCAS NEAL
FIVE MONTHS
written Tuesday, May 20th.
What an awesome 5 months this has been! This month has been full of adventures, including moving to a new house. You are becoming more and more aware of your surroundings, and are into EVERYTHING! You want whatever mom and dad have in their hands (especially drinks-- they look an awful lot like your bottles). Bound and determined, you practically will jump to get to what you want! You even threw your first semi-temper tantrum when we wouldn't let you eat a place mat. Tough stuff. Sadie is the most hilarious one in our crew to you, and you love watching her roam around. Food is on the horizon, as you are super interested in what we eat already.
Lately you've been waking up around 6:30am for the day, will take a shorter morning nap around 8:30-10 and then a longer afternoon nap from about 12:30 until 3.
Weight: Last week you weighed in at nearly 20 pounds.
Length: ?
Diaper Size: Size 3.
Clothes Size: 9 months is just perfect in most things, or 6-12 months. Pants are difficult to fit over your ever-so-lovable squishy thighs. :)
Hair Color: Dirty blonde.
Eye color: Blue.
Health:
You had another cold last week, which is so sad to watch you suffer through, although it didn’t seem to bother you too much. Other than that, you’re a healthy guy!
Eating:
You eat 5-6 ounces every 4 hours with cousin Laura, but you like to eat much more often when I’m around. :) You've been waking up around 3am each night for a snack, which I’m hoping to cut out once I’m out of school for the summer.
Milestones:
We might as well call you the roll master! You can’t stay in one spot for even a few seconds. Once you’re on your stomach you can hold your head up like a champ and are strong enough to scoot a bit. I can tell you want to MOVE. You grab things with great accuracy, and almost always put things in your mouth. We even gave you a corn on the cob to play with and you certainly enjoyed giving that a taste!
Your favorite toy:
Still the Jumperoo!
Firsts:
-Taste of food- kind of…(corn on the cob)
-Sippy cup!
-Sleeping on your tummy
Can't wait to spend all spring and summer taking you on adventures and showing you the outdoors. We love you, Lucas!
